French toast is my husband’s favorite breakfast! I decided to step up my French toast game and come up with a new recipe for him to enjoy! Given that maple and pecans is one of my favorite combinations, this recipe is nothing short of spectacular! It all starts with thick slices of toast battered and fried in butter until golden brown. Then the easy compound butter really elevates things and is basically the cherry on top! It is incredible on French toast, warm biscuits and even just regular toast so you might want to make extra to keep in your fridge!

How to make French Toast with Maple Pecan Butter?

  • Make maple pecan butter by combining softened butter, 3 tbsp maple syrup, 1 tsp vanilla extract and pecans in a bowl. Refrigerate until ready to use.
  • In a shallow bowl combine flour, whole milk, heavy cream, eggs, 2 tbsp maple syrup, 1 tbsp vanilla extract and cinnamon.
  • Melt butter on a griddle or frying pan over medium heat.
  • Dip sliced bread in egg mixture.
  • Fry bread until golden brown. Flip and cook the other side.
  • Serve french toast with maple pecan butter and maple syrup.

How to slice bread for French Toast?

I like using thick slices of bread and prefer Texas toast. You can leave your slices whole, cu them in half diagonally or cut them into thirds to make French toast sticks! I like making sticks for the kids to grab and dip into maple syrup!

Can you freeze French Toast?

Yes!! I often make a big batch of french toast and freeze some for later. Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil, then place cooled leftover french toast slices on it. Freeze for 30 minutes then place in freezer zippered plastic bag! I just reheat leftovers in the microwave from frozen.
