Hi everyone! I started food blogging way back when in 2012. But then you know life happened. Then children happened. And now I’m finally at the point of mom life where I feel like I might just be able to breathe again and get back to blogging. Life these days involves a lot of caffeine. There is nothing (and I really mean nothing) that I cherish more than slowly sipping my cup of coffee while contemplating my life decision of having children at the crack of dawn. Because you know waking up past 6:30 am these days is considering “sleeping in”.
So it’s only fitting that the first recipe I share with you is my morning protein coffee. It’s the perfect alternative to coffee creamer. Several months ago while desperately trying and failing to lose the last 10 lbs of 3 years later baby weight I decided to give up carbs which also meant giving up coffee creamer. It was a tough choice since coffee creamer and I had a very close relationship. With a beach vacation coming up I decided to go keto-ish (emphasize on the ish) with a friend and she mentioned adding protein powder to her coffee so I figured what the heck I’ll try it. 4 months later, I haven’t bought any coffee creamer since! So if you are trying to lower your carbs or add more protein to your diet you should give this a go. I love how blending this up gives the coffee a real creaminess and can you see the foam in the picture? It gives off a fancy cappuccino feel. You can probably try using a different protein powder, but I can’t guarantee it will mix up perfectly smooth like the one I typically use. What is your favorite low carb recipe?
- 8 oz brewed hot coffee
- 2 tbsp half and half
- 1 scoop protein powder (I use IdealLean brownie batter)
- 4 ice cubes
Directions: Put all ingredients in a blender and pulse until smooth and foam forms. Drink immediately.
